I’ve been listening to mental health podcasts for a long time now.
During a session with my therapist, he recommended that I listen to We Can Do Hard Things in my free time. Honestly, I didn’t like this idea at first. But, as I listened to it more and more, my mental health improved and became more stable.
I’ve listened to several mental health podcasts since then. And, while some of them were mere gossip, a few mental health podcasts were invaluable. From countering anxiety to stopping procrastination, these mental health podcasts have helped me a lot.
Also, all I need is a little peace and quiet, my trusty AirPods, and a reliable connection like Spectrum Internet to listen to these mental health podcasts without any interruptions. Having said that, if you’re looking to boost your mental health without visiting a therapist, stick with me as I’ll share a few helpful podcasts below.
We Can Do Hard Things
I’ve already told you that it was the first mental health podcast I ever listened to.
It features Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach, and Amanda Doyle. As the name indicates, the podcast focuses on hard and difficult things that we overcome in life. Be it dealing with career or family issues, addictions, or relationships, you’ll find these three openly talking about almost every problem we face in life.
Plus, it’s a free podcast, so anyone can listen to it.
Having said that, I always feel empowered to face the difficulties and challenges of life after listening to this podcast.
The Mental Illness Happy Hour
I started listening to this podcast after I came to know about its host, Paul Gilmartin. Paul, professionally a comedian, was diagnosed with clinical depression in 1999, and four years later, he realized that he was addicted to alcohol.
He’s been sober since then and now talks about topics that most people don’t like to discuss. He invites friends, artists, and doctors on his podcast to talk about a variety of mental health issues.
Additionally, it’s a free podcast and primarily focuses on normalizing mental health issues and openly talking about them to help other people. Especially those who suffer in silence can confidently and candidly express their mental health issues after listening to this podcast.
Feel Better, Live More
It might be the most comprehensive mental health podcast I’ve ever listened to. Even though Feel Better, Live More is a subscription-based podcast, it has more than 350 episodes on a variety of complex mental health topics.
Dr. Rangan Chatterjee runs this podcast, and he mostly invites leading specialists in their subjects.
What I like best as a listener is how simply Dr. Rangan and his guests discuss complex mental health issues and offer solutions to counter them.
Besides focusing on mental health issues, you’ll also find Dr. Rangan busting health-related myths that most people follow. All in all, Feel Better, Live More thoroughly covers every aspect of mental health with amazing, helpful, and unique information.
The Hilarious World Of Depression
It’s a 97-episode free podcast that helps people deal with depression in unique ways. The Hilarious World Of Depression is hosted by John Moe, a famous comedian who shares his experience of depression.
John mostly invited comedians on his podcast. Besides hilarious jokes, you’ll find plenty of information about depression. Also, as John and the rest of his guests share their experience of dealing with depression in different episodes, you’d gradually develop a coping mechanism against it.
Having said that, John has moved on to a new show, Depresh Mode. Even though I haven’t listened to this podcast, I believe it’ll be as good as this one.
Happier With Gretchen Rubin
As the name indicates, it’s one of those podcasts that can instantly lift the mood. It is hosted by Gretchen Rubin, where she, along with her guests, focuses on finding different ways to feel happier and content in life.
Not just this, this podcast also teaches the art of breaking free from bad habits. For this, Gretchen has created a cheat sheet. With this, you’d easily understand the crucial steps in quitting bad habits.
Additionally, it’s a free podcast that also focuses on overcoming loneliness without any external help.
Speaking from experience, it’s difficult. But if you consistently follow Gretchen’s tips, you might feel a positive difference in your attitude and happiness levels in a few days.
To wind up, these are the top five mental health podcasts for me. From fighting depression to taking measures against anxiety and overthinking, these podcasts have improved my mental well-being.
So, if you’re feeling mentally drained, listen to these podcasts as they can help you, for sure. Good Luck!
